After a record-breaking 122 million votes, born-again Christian country singer, Scotty McCreer, has been declared this year's winner of American Idol.

The two finalists, Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery, had taken part in Tuesday night's final, in one of the most hotly debated seasons of the Fox show's 10-year-history, and finally Scotty was declared the winner.

Fox announced that more than 122 million votes poured in, marking a new record in "Idol" history, bringing the season total to more than 730 million votes.

It was two hours in the final show that Ryan Seacrest finally got the golden envelope, and McCreery and Alaina gave each other a playful, youthful shove in anticipation of the news.

MTV reported, "To almost no one's surprise, the name inside was Scotty's, and the Garner, North Carolina baseball star and church choir member burst into tears, bending over with his hands on his knees as the giant screen behind him flashed 'Scotty Wins!'

Scotty said, "It's been a year since me and Lauren Alaina tried out, and me and her have been together since day one and we're gonna stay together. ... Never in my wildest dreams."

He added, "I gotta thank the Lord first. He got me here."

As the huge American TV audience tuned in to see Scotty McCreery crowned, he has been telling the world that he is second.

According to a news release from A. Larry Ross Communications (, since the beginning of the season, McCreery has been seen wearing a black I Am Second bracelet on his right wrist, showing his support for the groundbreaking I Am Second movement.
